oscar onsite - virginiaVirginia now has a new tool for onsite wastewater dispersal. The OSCAR-II is an at-grade dispersal component. The simple design of the system eliminates disturbing any roots during installation, uses all the soil depth as vertical separation, and requires the smallest for print given the same soil type and design flow.

The OSCAR-II is an onsite sewage dispersal component for use with treated wastewater meeting at least septic tank effluent standards. Wastewater first passes through a treatment vessel or septic tank and then into a dosing tank where it is dosed to the OSCAR coils. Treated effluent is micro dosed into a layer of ASTM C-33 sand. Liquid then migrates downward to the receiving soil where final discharge of treated wastewater enters the soil environment.

The OSCAR is comprised of a 6 inches layer of C-33 sand media and a series of custom manufactured Netafim Bioline drip tubing coils. The sand media is placed on a prepared soil surface creating a level surface for the coils.

OSCAR coils are then placed on the sand media and then covered with another 6 inches of sand media. Cover soil can be added to achieve a 1:4 slope.

The sand/soil interface is the discharge point for the wastewater. Vertical separation is measured from the original soil surface prior to basal area preparation and the restrictive layer. If enough soil depth is present, the basal area can be excavated to lower the profile of the OSCAR.

Vertical separation requirements are as follows:

STE requires >/= 18″ offset with all natural/undisturbed soil. If the OSCAR being proposed by an engineer is for dispersal only and preceded by treatment, then, for STE, the 6″ OSCAR sand would need to be underlain by >/= 18″ natural/undisturbed soil above the limiting feature.

TL2 requires >/= 12″ offset, including minimum 6″ natural/undisturbed soil. The 6″ OSCAR sand would need to be underlain by >/= 6″ natural/undisturbed soil
above the limiting feature.

TL3 with disinfection requires >/= 6″ offset (can be composed of natural soil or approved fill/sand). Less than 6″ offset constitutes direct dispersal and would invoke additional treatment required for direct dispersal.

For TL3 with disinfection, the bottom of the 6″ OSCAR sand could be at the limiting feature.
